Conexion AHAA is published monthly by the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies (AHAA) to share resources, ideas, tools and updates on the Hispanic marketing and advertising industry.
NOTES FROM THE CHAIR
2012 is going to be a year of growth, change and engagement for AHAA. The association has repositioned itself as The Voice of Hispanic Marketing because we have been a long-standing champion for corporate investment in Hispanic marketing. This new direction also serves to create an environment where the best work, regardless of marketing discipline. AHAA’s logo has been updated to reflect this broader role. Also a key part of this transition is a change in the membership structure. To reflect these changes, effective immediately, all current Associate Members will become Full General Members. General members will now include firms that specialize in Hispanic advertising, public relations, research, promotions, direct response, music, consulting, production, as well as media. There will still be an associate member category for faculty/students.
The countdown to our Annual Conference has begun. The theme is Listen Up! and we are bringing in clients from top brands to tell us about their experience in the Hispanic market. We have already confirmed speakers from Clorox, Tecate and Google. Come find out why they decided to enter the space, what their successes have been and what they have learned. Check the conference website as speakers and agenda will be updated weekly.
Also exciting is our partnership with Circulo Creativo for the launch of the USH Idea Awards. The awards will recognize the best creativity and innovation from in the categories of: film (television and non-television); radio; out of home and print; interactive; production techniques; promotion; design; and out of the U.S. Hispanic. The call for entries will be opening at the end of February. The awards gala presentation will be on Friday, May 4, 2012 as part of our annual conference.
In our effort to continue to bring member value AHAA has now partnered with Geoscape, a provider of analytics, data and automated intelligence systems. The Education Committee has scheduled several webinars for the first quarter including Geoscape and UTalk. GM Selects The Vox Collective as Hispanic Agency
General Motors has selected New York advertising and communications agency, The Vox Collective, as its U.S. Hispanic public relations agency for 2012 following an extensive review of agency capabilities in public relations, corporate communications, and public affairs before the rapidly expanding Hispanic market.
Telemundo Media Names Maria Lopez Alvarez Sr Vice President of Alternative Programming
Telemundo Media announced that Maria Lopez Alvarez has been named senior vice president of alternative programming. Alvarez, a 26-year industry veteran from Univision, will report to Alina Falcon, executive vice president, news and alternative programming, effective immediately.
Entravision Communications Corporation Promotes Mario M. Carrera to Senior Vice President of Spanish-Language Television
Entravision Communications Corporation announced that Mario M. Carrera has been promoted to the newly-created position of Senior Vice President of Spanish-Language Television, overseeing and managing all of Entravision's Spanish-language television properties. Carrera previously led Entravision's radio, television and interactive assets in Colorado as the Vice President and General Manager for 8 years.
MegaTV Promotes Marilyn Navarro to Local Sales Manager
Spanish Broadcasting System Inc., (SBS) announced the promotion of industry veteran Marilyn Navarro to Local Sales Manager for MegaTV, SBS's Television property. In her new role, Mrs. Navarro will be responsible for local "spot" sales for MegaTV in Miami, while coordinating and overseeing local sales representatives.
